What are photovoltaics 

              The photovoltaic effect was discovered in 1839 and used for practical purposes in the late '50s in space applications. The photovoltaic (PV) systems can convert solar energy into electricity. A typical PV system consists of a PV module or solar generator and power electronics that manage the electric power generated by the PV array. For stand-alone systems there is also a system of energy storage in batteries.
